Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Find The Nightsong

Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a myriad of fun quests to participate in and win exciting and useful rewards. “Find The Nightsong”, which begins in Act 1, is one of the main quests that players need to complete to progress further in the story. Since it is one of the game’s longest quests, players might find it confusing and challenging at the same time. Luckily, this handy guide will give you a step-by-step solution to the “Find the Nightsong” quest in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How To Find The Nightsong In Baldur’s Gate 3

In order to get started, you first need to approach Liam in Druid Grove. From there, he will assign you the quest ‘Find The Nightsong.’ In this quest, apart from locating the Nightsong, you will also be required to make critical decisions in the end, so it is important to follow this guide carefully. Also, having Shadowheart as your companion during this quest is a must, as her personal quest’s final step is tied to Nightsong.

Nightsong – who turns out to be a person rather than an object – lies in the deepest section of the Gauntlet of Shar. From the Goblin Camp, follow the path until you reach the Defiled Temple, the lowest area of the dungeon. On your way, you will have to take on the enemy Priestess, Gut, who will drop the keys on being defeated. (However, you can also try to pick the lock.) Using Gut’s key, you can open the gate that make your way to progress to the deepest part of the Defiled Temple, where a puzzle must be solved.

Puzzle

As shown in the screenshot above, you need to rotate the discs and place the black holes under the lit areas. The correct order is top, top, right, top, top, top, left, left, left, bottom, bottom, bottom, left, left. Once you complete this puzzle, the Gate behind you will open and you can make your way to the Underdark.

Your quest will continue in Act 2, where you must progress to the Thorm Mausoleum. Once you reach it, you need to follow the path, and you will find the Gauntlet Of Shar, the area inside which Nightsong resides. However, there’s one more puzzle awaiting you: turning down the 8 Lanterns in the chamber. You can do this by shooting and interacting with the Levers, which are placed in the four corners of the current room. Once done, you will see a glowing circle surrounding the statue inside the chamber due to the extreme darkness. Walk up to the figure, avoiding the glowing lines, and touch the orb to complete the task.

Balthazar

Soon after, the stone door will unlock, and you can follow the passageway to reach Balthazar’s room. But getting to his chamber will be challenging, as numerous enemies will stand in your way. When you reach Balthazar’s room, converse briefly with him. After that, you will be required to collect 4 Umbral Gems to get access to Nightsong’s location.

Shadowfell Entrance

You can get the 4 Umbral Gems by taking on main boss Yurgir (encountered during the “Raphael’s Old Enemy” quest) and completing 3 major puzzles: Faith-Step TrialSelf-Same Trial, and Soft-Step Trial. To complete the Soft-Step Trial, sneak to the end of a maze without getting caught. The Self-Same Trial will require you to fight clones of your party members. Finally, the Faith-Step Trial involves remembering the order of platforms to progress through a dark room.

Eventually, after placing all four Gems on the Altar, you will gain access to the Shadowfell Entrance, which you must enter to meet Nightsong. But bear in mind that once you enter this area, there is no way to go back, so complete any other missions in the area before progressing.

Should You Kill Or Spare Nightsong?

p 3

After getting inside, you will have to defeat Balthazar in order to free Nightsong. Once the fight is over, you will get 2 choices:

  • Kill The Nightsong: If you choose to kill the Nightsong yourself, Shadowheart will permanently leave your alliance. On the other hand, letting Shadowheart kill Nightsong will lead to different consequences, which can remove many quests, companions, and more! However, you will get a new weapon, Shar’s Spear of Evening.
  • Save The Nightsong: If you decide to save Nightsong, it will require you to pass a DC 21 Charisma Check. This is quite a burdensome task, so you might end up failing more than a single time. The best thing to do is to keep reloading the last save until you succeed in your task. Ultimately, Shadowheart will leave Nightsong by throwing her Spear, and you will not lose any quests or companions.

It is up to you whether you want to Kill or Save Nightsong. However, saving her is generally the better option, as killing her will restrict you from many of the quests available in the game. Saving her results in much fewer consequences.

That’s how you find (and either spare or kill) Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you find this guide helpful, share it with your friends! Let us know if you have any questions in mind regarding Baldur’s Gate 3  or if you want any specific topics to be covered in future GameLuster guides!
