CEO of Nintendo Satoru Iwata Dies at Age 55

Nintendo has issued a short statement announcing that its president, Satoru Iwata has died at the young age of 55.

The Statement reads;

Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.

As we all know, Iwata was ill for a long time, having to miss last years E3 due to poor health, which then lead to surgery to remove the growth.

In his time as President, Iwata lead the company through both good (Wii, NDS) and bad (GameCube, Wii U) times, and well known for his creation of the Mother series and his work on series like Kirby, Smash Bros and Pokemon.

Iwata was a great man, a talented programmer, and at heart, a gamer.

“On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.”

Rest in Peace, Mr. Iwata. You will be missed by both industry and Nintendo fans alike.
