Driveclub developer Evolution Studios shut down by Sony

The Playstation 4’s Driveclub was supposed to be the next big thing in racing games, before its release it was toted as the future but this was not the case. When the game arrived in came with many issues and overall just didn’t quite find the fanbase it needed and because of this developer Evolution Studios faced some trouble.

Last year the company was hit with dark times as they were forced to layoff fifty five employees, now Evolution Studios the creators of Driveclub and Motorstorm has officially hit the wall at the end of the tunnel as Sony has officially shut them down. So following last years layoffs Sony has made the tough business decision to make the rest of the staff redundant as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.

In a statement Sony shared the following:

“Where possible we will try to reallocate people onto other projects. If appropriate opportunities are not possible within the company, we will assist staff in any way we can, including speaking with local employers and with other development companies.”

The game director of Driveclub Paul Rustchynsky issued a quick statement on Twitter following the announcement.

I’ve had an incredible time working for #EvolutionStudios, here’s short statement from me:

Evolution Studios closure statement

Lets hope that even with the studios closure that Sony will still find other developers to develop further games in Evolution Studios franchises.

We hope those who lost their jobs at Evolution Studios shall find new employment in the near future and continue to work towards bringing us new experiences in the future.
