Today, Holistic Design has announced Emperor Of The Fading Suns Enhanced is coming to Steam on April 4. Originally released in 1997, Emperor Of The Fading Suns was a 4X game set in Holistic’s Fading Suns RPG setting. Players assume the role of a noble of one of the Empire’s Royal Houses and are tasked with the goal of becoming Emperor of The Known Worlds by any means necessary. Military conquest, espionage, and diplomatic options with various factions both human and alien give players a variety of paths to power.
Emperor Of The Fading Suns Enhanced can be played single-player, or with up to five people in multiplayer. Players will need to take a combined arms approach in military operations, building and deploying units not only in space, but for land, sea, and air operations on planets as they fight to conquer or defend their holdings. For those who want more than just starships and tanks, psychic soldiers and alien warbeasts are also viable options, though their existence might offend different factions. An elaborate diplomatic component not only involves the Royal Houses, but also the Universal Church of the Celestial Sun, various Guilds such as the Reeves and the Muster, and even the enigmatic aliens known as the Vau, all of whom have their own ideas about the fate of the Empire. Trade options allow players obtain rare resources which might tip the balance of power within the Empire, and possibly beyond.
