ESA Launches New Canadian Best-Selling Video Game Charts

The Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESA Canada) has launched a new monthly best-selling games chart, highlighting the top selling games in Canada. The chart includes both physical and digital sales for for Xbox and PlayStation titles, and just physical sales for Nintendo games. The data is sourced from the NPD group, who also track video game spending in the USA

The first chart covers January 2023, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II takes the top spot for the month. It’s followed by Fire Emblem Engage at #2, and the Dead Space remake at #3. The physical sales for Fire Emblem Engage on the Switch must have been impressive, taking second place without any digital sales included.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
The ever-popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II takes the top spot on the first ESA Canada gaming chart.

In typical Canadian fashion, NHL 23 ranks at #4, ahead of FIFA 23 at #5. Hockey is a particularly popular sport in Canada, so no surprises there. Elden Ring sits at #6, a solid position given the game released almost a year ago in Feb. 2022. The last spot of the chart goes to Mario Kart 8, which is presumably the Switch’s Deluxe version. The image and title featured is the Wii U title, but we doubt a nine year old Wii U game is charting in Canada!

The inaugural ESA Canada best-selling games chart for January 2023 can be seen below. We’ll be looking forward to covering more of these as the year continues.

  1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
  2. Fire Emblem Engage (digitals not included)
  3. Dead Space
  4. NHL 23
  5. FIFA 23
  6. Elden Ring
  7. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (digitals not included)
  8. Forspoken
  9. God of War: Ragnarök
  10. Mario Kart 8 (digitals not included, presumably Deluxe)
