Famitsu: Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Continues To Top The Charts

Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers May 15 – 21 where Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom continues to maintain its top spot.

Tears of the Kingdom holds top spot for the second consecutive week with a whopping 247,689 copies sold taking the total to 1,367,191. Similarly, its predecessor Breath of the Wild sits at 3rd place despite releasing back in 2017. This week saw it sell another 7,520 copies and is no doubt thanks to the sequel’s successful release.

In other news, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe rose to 2nd place with an extra 8,264 copies sold this week for Nintendo Switch. Fourth place belongs to Pokemon Scarlet / Violet which gained an extra 5,573 sales this week perhaps courtesy of recent Amazon sales. Minecraft comes in at 5th which is no surprise considering it is a regular feature of the charts.

6th, 7th and 8th place go to Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 3 respectively. The list finishes off with Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection and Nintendo Switch Sports. It’s safe to say it was a successful week for Nintendo Switch titles.

As for hardware sales this week, the Nintendo Switch OLED took top spot for a second consecutive week. Additionally, the PlayStation 5 kept its second spot with 32,553 units sold and the Nintendo Switch followed suit with 11,446 extra sales. With Switch units beating competition at almost double, it’s going to take a lot for it to be beat throughout the year. However if anything can do it, it will be the PS5 who sits comfortably in second place.
