Final Fantasy XIV is Free on PS4 Until May 26

The Starter Edition of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is now free to download until Tuesday, May 26. Square Enix is also throwing in a 30-day subscription for free, which will make Final Fantasy XIV free-to-play for an entire month. Final Fantasy XIV is available for download via the Playstation Store, as announced via Twitter, which can be seen below.

It is important to bear in mind that the Starter Edition of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will not include the game’s three main expansions, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers. As a result, these add-ons will need to be purchased separately from the base game.

For those who do not want to download the full game initially, a free demo is available as a teaser for what the game has to offer. The demo can be found via the Playstation Store. Also, a PlayStation Plus membership is not required in order to play Final Fantasy XIV.

The Starter Edition of the MMORPG is traditionally $20, so it’s a deal many will not want to miss out on. Recently, as a result of the impact of COVID-19, the next update due to roll out in mid-June was delayed indefinitely, as developers adapt to working from home at the moment. This exclusive deal from Square Enix should bridge the gap for those who are waiting for the new patch.

In other Final Fantasy related news, according to the NPD Group, Final Fantasy VII Remake became the third best-selling game of the year to date, following behind Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Meanwhile, the acclaimed Final Fantasy VII Remake is already the highest selling title of the year on the PlayStation 4. NPD further confirmed that the game set a new franchise launch month record, beating out Final Fantasy XV.
