This is a weird story to be reporting, but in a collaboration between Epic Games and Google Gemini along with Elevenlabs, there is now a fully interactive AI Darth Vader available to talk to on the Fortnite map. If your microphone is enabled, you can hold a button to speak and let Darth Vader hear you, to which an AI model of his voice will respond to your specific query.
As you may imagine, this is a somewhat controversial an addition for a game so popular with children. Whilst there is a restriction that kids can’t interact with AI without parental permission, it’s an extremely strange thing to add to Fortnite. There are also some limits on what AI Darth Vader can talk about, including anything romantic, swear words, extensive talk on non-Disney or Star Wars media, V-Bucks and even what Darth Vader did to the Younglings in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
The current season of Fortnite is entirely dedicated to Star Wars, and it has been a blast to play so far. The addition of a fully AI voiced and interactive Darth Vader is sure to be a contentious one though, and at present it is the only AI character in Fortnite. It remains to be seen how the Fortnite community and gaming community at large will respond to the inclusion, but for now, if you want to go and talk to Darth Vader on the Fortnite island, you can.
