Gearbox working on the future of the Borderlands franchise

There is a future in the works for the Borderlands franchise over at Gearbox, previously, we have found out that Gearbox is ready to work on the next major installment, but now we have more confirmation. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has revealed that people at Gearbox are working on things for future Borderlands titles, though it does remain to be seen how these will be used.

Speaking with IGN, Pitchford has acknowledged that there will “almost certainly” be more Borderlands, however while the series future can be confirmed Pitchford has said he is unclear on what form these ideas will take.

When Pitchford was asked if a new title was imminent he responded simply with “Probably not,” though he did elaborate further:

“It depends on how you define soon. There’ll almost certainly be more Borderlands, but we need to figure out what that is. I don’t even know if it’s Borderlands 3, but yeah. There are people working on Borderlands things for the future at Gearbox but we haven’t announced anything yet.

“And why would it be called Borderlands 3? What if it’s Borderlands 4 – there’s already been three Borderlands games. What if it’s Borderlands 5? What we call it and what it is are things we care about and we’re engaged about but it would be irresponsible to share anything at this stage, because almost certainly anything we’re thinking now is going to change between now and when we commit ourselves.”

For now we will have to wait and see what news comes in the future for this franchise.
