Hackers Just Made Microsoft Remove Call Of Duty: WW2 From PC Game Pass

Earlier this week, Microsoft added Call of Duty: WWII to their Game Pass service, available to subscribers of all tiers, from Standard to Ultimate and those who just use the PC version. The latter PC Game Pass release of the game has an issue however – it’s absolutely plagued with hackers. Despite only being available for a few days on the service, Microsoft has had to pull Call of Duty: WWII from Game Pass on PC, due to the number of hackers and the danger they put other players in.

Hilariously, the Call of Duty team on social media described the well-documented hacking plague as “reports of an issue”. That’s one way to describe it! Those hacking Call of Duty: WWII are no regular hackers that simply want advantages in the game, but rather actively malicious hackers that are running codes on other players’ PCs without their knowledge. This hacking is known as an ‘RCE’ attack, standing for ‘remote code execution’, referring to their ability to hack and execute commands on other PCs from their own computer.

Hackers are infesting Call of Duty: WWII on PC and Microsoft has noticed.

One player shared their experience over on X (formerly Twitter), showing how during a regular game using PC Game Pass, a text box was forced onto their screen with boasts that they’d been hacked by another player in Call of Duty: WWII. The hackers are providing their usernames and socials in these forced text boxes, error messages and more being pushed onto the PCs of other players, and Microsoft has decided to step in and remove the game before any more active harm is done.

We’ll be sure to provide an update when Call of Duty: WWII returns to PC Game Pass, but for now it’s probably best to avoid the PC versions of older Call of Duty games if you value the integrity of your system!
