Karate Kid Story Continues in Cobra Kai Video Game

2020 has been quite a year for the Karate Kid franchise. The TV sequel Cobra Kai, which was dropped from YouTube, was picked up by Netflix, with the first two seasons available to stream later this month, and a third season confirmed to be on the way. That alone would be big news — but wait, there’s more! Not only will the tough, take-no-prisoners Cobra Kai dojo be coming to our TV screens, but our consoles as well!

GameMill Entertainment has announced an official release date for Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues — and it’s coming soon! This brand new story set in the Karate Kid universe will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on October 27, 2020. This release date comes a mere two months after the premiere of Cobra Kai Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix, which will be on August 28.

Cobra Kai is a two-player fighting game inspired by classic titles such as Double Dragon. Couch co-op will allow players to teach up with the buddy of their choice to take on the game’s 28 fiendishly challenging story missions. GameMill has announced that the game will feature eight playable characters. However, only two have been announced: the adult versions of Daniel LaRusso and his rival Johnny Lawrence, voiced by Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, respectively.

However, the game’s trailer implies that the other playable characters will consist of the next generation of students who are being taught by Johnny and “Daniel-san.” Each character will feature their own unique fighting style, which can be customized via purchasing upgrades, learning new moves in the dojo, and unlocking the branches on their skill tree.

The game’s story, which has been confirmed to be completely original and not merely a retelling of the Cobra Kai TV series, can be experienced from both sides of the epic rivalry. Players must complete both the “Cobra Kai Campaign” and “Miyagi-do Campaign” to view the game’s true ending. That’s quite a lot of karate-fueled action!

Are you looking forward to the new Karate Kid game? Will you be siding with Daniel’s Miyagi-do or Johnny’s Cobra Kai? Let us know!
