Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Gets Release Date, New DLC

The singular title from failed game developer 38 Studios, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, was picked up in a fire sale by THQ Nordic following 38 Studios’ closure and an auction of its assets by the State of Rhode Island. Now, THQ Nordic has announced that the remastered version of the game, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, will be coming out on September 8 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Kingdoms of Amalur boasted a deep bench of all-star talent with regards to the content. The writing and worldbuilding were handled by noted fantasy author R. A. Salvatore, while the character designs were handled by Todd McFarlane (Spawn). The game was originally intended to be a single-player introduction to a planned MMORPG, but the studio shut down rather abruptly amid charges of mismanagement.

The remaster will contain the original base game as well as the two existing DLC packs, Teeth of Naros and Legend of Dead Kel.  Additionally, THQ Nordic is releasing two additional versions of the remaster.  The “Fate Edition” will contain all remastered content as well as an all-new DLC pack titled Fatesworn which will be coming out sometime in 2021.  Additionally, a new Collector’s Edition is going to be released, containing the following items:

    • A highly-detailed Alyn Shir Figurine (20.8cm tall x 18cm wide x 14.2cm deep)
    • A custom Amalur keychain
    • Five pieces of original in-game artwork
    • The award-winning game soundtrack composed by Grant Kirkhope
    • A high-quality Collector’s Box

The pricing structure for the remaster seems to be fairly reasonable.  The standard edition will be going out at $39.99 USD, with the Fate Edition retailing for $54.99 USD and the Collector’s Edition for $109.99 USD.  Both standard and Fate Editions should now be available for pre-order, though there are fewer details about the availability of the Collector’s Edition.
