Lego Dimensions Year 2 content has been announced

Unlike other franchises that use the toys to life framework for their game, Lego Dimensions is not being quick to jump to a sequel, instead this game continues to expand with new sets and for this second year on the market this is what we are getting. Warner Brothers has revealed the Year 2 content for Lego Dimensions, and with it we will see many characters from fan favourite franchises get a look in.

For Year 2 the game will expand with new Story Packs, Level Packs, Team Packs and Fun Packs all of which will add new characters, content and levels from over sixteen new properties.

This all begins September 27 when the Ghostbusters (2016) Story Pack, Mission Impossible and Adventure Time Level Packs, Harry Potter and Adventure Time Team Packs, and the A-Team Fun Pack launch. Additional packs based on other franchises will released between the September 27 launch and summer 2017. These franchises include Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, The LEGO Batman Movie, The Goonies, Sonic the Hedgehog, Teen Titans Go, LEGO City Undercover, Knight Rider, The Powerpuff Girls, Gremlins, Beetlejuice, and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

The managing director of TT Games Tom Stone shared the new details for Lego Dimensions saying:

“We’ve built upon the existing LEGO DIMENSIONS Starter Pack to expand the gameplay possibilities with entirely new LEGO experiences that can’t be found anywhere else. We can now provide players with even more customization and mash-up opportunities, and all are compatible with the existing game and packs. Battle Arenas also introduce a fun new way for friends and family to join the action together and battle as favorite characters, which is an exciting innovation for LEGO videogames.”

The president of Warner Brothers Interactive David Haddad followed on by sharing:

“LEGO DIMENSIONS is a significant part of our LEGO videogames portfolio, and we are excited to offer fans many more iconic entertainment franchises combined with new, enhanced ways to play. TT Games continues to innovate and expand the game experience, which gives players breakthrough digital and physical gameplay with an amazing amount of world-class entertainment properties connected together.”

Finally, Niels Jørgensen the vice president of digital games for the Lego Group chirped it say:

“We are excited to continue our partnership with TT Games and WBIE and bring even more characters to life through LEGO DIMENSIONS. The videogame has allowed our fans to extend their LEGO play experience in a whole new way and the new expansion packs will create even more play possibilities through exciting properties.”

Year 2 will introduce a new feature to Lego Dimensions, the Battle Arena, and this will be Lego’s first competitive mode. This mode will add splitscreen to the game for up to four players, which is a rare treat, however to access the Battle Arena you will need Year 2 figures. Each comes with a golden Toy Tag that unlocks a Battle Arena within the Free Play Adventure World. Each arena comes with four different gameplay modes and includes its own unique maps, traps, and special powers.

LEGO Dimensions Year 2 will begin as of September 27 on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. Year 2 minifigures are compatible with Year 1’s ToyPad so there is no reason to buy another Starter Pack which is a relief. You can watch the trailer for the announcement below:
