With Sega making changes within the company and Sonic struggling to get off his feet I had my doubts that Sega and Nintendo would team up again and make the fifth installment in the Mario and Sonic Olympic Games series, I had hoped but it just seemed unlikely. Of course thanks to a new Nintendo Direct that aired in Japan today my fears were proven false as Nintendo announced that Sega was developing the latest entry in the franchise.

Within the latest direct we received our first look at Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, you can watch the announcement trailer below:

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will arrive on the Wii U and 3DS, though no release date has been confirmed as of yet.
