As of April 17, Marvel has announced that a new issue of the Marvel Swimsuit Special is to be released later this year on July 9. The special comic will make its return after 30 years, with the original special running from 1991 to 1995.
Marvel didn’t just confirm that the lighthearted one-shot would be coming back in a magazine-style issue, but that some of the hero designs will appear in Marvel Rivals as well as purchasable cosmetics. There will be both swimsuit and summer skins coming to the game, with Marvel Rivals being certainly no stranger to revealing skins.
No official date for the new summer skins has been announced yet, but they’re expected to come potentially around the same time as the Swimsuit Special comic.
NetEase did a similar skin release for the last major seasonal change in winter, with skins for Jeff the Land Shark, Groot, Rocket, and Magik all coming around for the holiday celebration,. There would be no surprise if NetEase also did an event like they did then for the upcoming new summer skins – and what better attire for a summer party than a swimsuit?
As we mentioned, it may seem somewhat scandalous but we really shouldn’t be surprised by this news, as more suggestive skins have already been released for some of Marvel’s most iconic heroes. For example there’s Namor’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever costume, Emma Frost’s X-Revolution outfit, Invisible Woman’s Malice suit, Psylocke’s Vengeance costume, and Black Panther’s Bast’s Chosen skin. For us though, it will be exciting to see what the new summer skins are going to look like! We just hope they don’t add more new in-game currencies.
