New Pokémon Snap Coming to Nintendo Switch April 30

Oh (Pokémon) Snap! Popular 1999 “photography shooter” Pokémon Snap is finally receiving its long-awaited sequel as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Pokémon franchise. Titled New Pokémon Snap, the game is coming to Nintendo Switch on April 30, 2021. It will retain the gameplay of the original but add a new region, new characters and, of course, tons and tons of new Pokémon.

Like its predecessor, New Pokémon Snap revolves around photographing Pokémon in their natural habitat. The player, an aspiring photographer, will journey to the brand new Lental region to help Professor Mirror with his research. Armed with their trusty camera and the NEO-ONE travel pod, players can explore an archipelago filled with diverse environments ranging from deserts and mountains to lush forests, jungles and of course the vast blue ocean.

Pokémon from every generation of the series will be available to photograph as they frolic and play in their natural habitats. Over 200 different creatures can be found living on the Lental archipelago. There’s even a Pokémon Photodex to fill out if you’re the kind of player who loves to “catch ’em all”. Professor Mirror will happily evaluate every photo that you bring to him, so make sure to snag some high quality shots you can keep forever as your Photodex grows and grows. Maybe you’ll even get to photograph a rare Legendary Pokémon under just the right circumstances.

As you take photos, you’ll investigate the truth behind the mysterious “Illumina” phenomenon, which causes plants and Pokémon to glow with a bright, unusual light. What’s happening in the Lental region? Only an intrepid photographer can find out!

New Pokémon Snap is currently available for pre-order via the official Nintendo Switch website.
