One of Nintendo’s newest IP is getting older, as Splatoon celebrates its ten year anniversary today. It was all the way back on May 28 of 2015 that Splatoon first launched on Wii U, and here we are ten years later and three games into the series – games that break all-time sales records like Splatoon 3! Nintendo has released a celebratory artwork to commemorate the massive anniversary, and left us with the tiniest of teases for a future installment.
The official Japanese Splatoon account shared the commemorative artwork you can see in our headline image above, and describes how they’ve made some great achievements with the Squid Research Institute (the role-playing name of the Splatoon Japan account). They end the post saying, via machine translation, “we intend to continue researching squids in the future, I look forward to working with you again”. It’s only small, but it’s confirmation that the Splatoon journey is far from over, and there’s so much more to discover in the Splatoon universe.

As part of Nintendo’s Splatoon anniversary celebrations, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be able to exchange their Platinum Points for new icon parts featuring some of Splatoon‘s most famous characters from all three titles. From original idol duo Callie and Marie to the Deep Cut crew and Harmony from Splatoon 3, you can represent your favorite Splatoon character as the icon parts roll out in waves all throughout June.
