We’re getting closer and closer to the June 5 release of the Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo are hard at work updating all their systems for the next generation of Nintendo. Excitingly, we’ve also got some new character renders! We’ve slowly been seeing these trickle in since last year, first with Mario himself, then earlier this year with Donkey Kong’s redesign for the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza. Nintendo have now shared a full Super Mario character group photo with all their new renders, and separately even gave us an updated Diddy Kong too!
You can see the updated Super Mario cast below as compared by X (formerly Twitter) user Jolly J, with every character from Rosalina and Bowser to Mario and Boo seeing updated designs and interpretations. Some highlights include the huge change to Donkey Kong’s fur rendering and facial expressions, Rosalina floating instead of standing now, and Boo’s tongue is now extra pink and shiny. Just see for yourself, the bottom one is the new one!
Along with this new group of character renders, Nintendo also updated their Diddy Kong render, first being featured in a Nintendo News post accessible on the Switch system’s news feed. You can see it in the headline image above, with the Nintendo logo removed from his hat, and hugely more detailed fur rendering system, a tubbier belly and now he has teeth. We can’t help but wonder if this new render for Diddy Kong is also a sign of things to come with a potential appearance in Donkey Kong Bananza.
