The latest RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed, has been the talk of the internet this past week, as it released on PC and Xbox Series X|S on Tuesday. As Obsidian’s first new RPG since The Outer Worlds in 2019, there have been a lot of eyes on how exactly the game will perform, and it seems like the news is good. According to a new article from Bloomberg, the game which took six years to develop has left the team “happy with sales so far”.
A quick glance on the Steam global top sellers list shows it currently at #9, with it creeping higher to #8 in the United States and #7 in the United Kingdom. Whilst there are other new single-player titles higher up such as Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, that’s excellent company to even share a top 10 seller chart with. This chart also doesn’t tell the full picture for PC sales, as the game is available on PC Game Pass, making it easily accessible to those subscribed to the service (but wouldn’t count as a sale on Steam).
It’s not just performing well in sales; Avowed has 79% positive reviews out of the 4,000 it currently has from its Steam players, along with an 80 on Metacritic. The user score on Metacritic is much lower, but some negative reviews explicitly cite “the devs’ political views” for their score, so you can decide for yourself if that marks an accurate reflection of the game’s quality!
