PS Plus Owners Cannot Get Access To Fallout 4’s Next-Gen Update

Following the huge success of the live action Fallout series, Bethesda has released the next-gen update for Fallout 4 and owners of the game would be able to snag the update for free… That is, if you didn’t get the standard PlayStation Plus Essentials version of the game. Many players have reported that they are unable to acquire the update and this seems to be an issue for only those that received the game via Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service.

Players who had already acquired the game when it was free on PlayStation Plus Essentials are now being asked to pay for the game if they want the free update immediately. What makes this situation particularly frustrating for players is that Fallout 4 recently went on sale for only $5, which would have saved those looking to pay up and skip the wait some money. Players of the paid release are able to access the update presently. It has been confirmed by a Bethesda representative that there was some confusion and the update is presently only available for PlayStation Plus Extra users through an error. This leaves players of the lower tier with no other choice but to upgrade their PS Plus service or buy Fallout 4.

As of writing, a Bethesda Softworks Community manager has posted on the official Bethesda Discord server that the issue has yet to be resolved for PlayStation Plus users but the company is actively working on the issue. A similar statement was also shared on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) page. It is unclear when this issue will be resolved but hopefully, things will be fixed soon.

As for what’s included in this update, the next-gen version will give Fallout 4 players and their respective consoles access to native applications, settings for both a Performance and Quality mode, as well as several improvements to the game’s overall stability and various other fixes. Players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will also get the free update along with their own string of stability improvements, login bonuses and much-needed quest fixes. PC players will also get new widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, along fixes to certain quests, the Creation Kit and mod support fixes too.
