Remnant 2 allows you to choose from several archetypes at the beginning of the game. Later, you’ll have the chance to obtain the archetypes you passed up, along with other new ones. Being able to test new archetypes opens up several possibilities for combat and lets you try out a variety of skills. You can also equip primary and secondary archetypes, getting benefits from two archetypes at once. To start utilizing the benefits of multiple archetypes, you must find them first. This guide will cover each archetype available in Remnant 2 and the process you must do to unlock each of them.
Unlocking All Starter Archetypes In Remnant 2
After finishing the tutorial, you will have access to four archetypes (five if you pre-ordered any version of Remnant 2). The one you choose will be your starting archetype, which you can only change after unlocking a new one. Unlocking archetypes will require obtaining special materials relating to that archetype’s capabilities. These materials are crafted into Engrams by Wallace, the same person in Ward 13 who gave you your first archetype. Creating Engrams will also cost Scrap, but the rewards are worth the price.
You can switch to any unlocked archetype while you are out of combat. All archetypes will start at Level 0 when unlocked, and you must manually level up each one. Once you earn 10 Trait Points, you can equip secondary archetypes on your character. These give you the benefits of two archetypes at once, but you only get the Prime Perk of your primary archetype.
Here’s what you must do to unlock the starting archetypes. These materials cost 1,500 Scrap and are found in Ward 13:
- Challenger: Purchase the Old Metal Tool from Reggie to create the Steel Enswell Engram.
- Medic: Purchase the Medic Pin from Dr. Norah to create the Caduceus Idol Engram.
- Hunter: Purchase the Rusty Medal from Brabus to create the Sniper War Medal Engram.
- Handler: Purchase the Old Whistle from Mudtooth to create the Silent Whistle Engram.
Unlocking The Gunslinger Archetype
The Gunslinger’s Engram material isn’t purchased like the others. You must instead clear your second world and return to Mudtooth. Even if you haven’t bought the Old Whistle from him, just listen to all of his stories. Then, you will receive the Worn Cylinder material that lets you create the Iron Cylinder Engram.
Unlocking The Secret Archetypes
There are five other archetypes that aren’t available in the beginning of Remnant 2. Their materials must still be brought to Wallace to turn into Engrams, though they are tougher to obtain.
- Alchemist: Get the Philosopher’s Stone from defeating Manticora at Losomn to craft the Philosopher’s Stone Engram.
- Summoner: Craft the Faded Grimoire using the Blood Moon’s Essence at Bloodmoon Altar. This is the material necessary to create the Tome of the Bringer Engram.
- Engineer: Find the Alien Device at the Titan’s Reach checkpoint, either at The Eon Vault or Timeless Horizon. This will turn into the Drzyr Caliper Engram.
- Invader: Get the Wooden Shiv from defeating Bane at Root Earth. It becomes the Serrated Root Blade Engram.
- Explorer: Get the Broken Compass by defeating Annihilation at the end of Root Earth’s main story. This creates the Golden Compass Engram.
For the Engineer’s Alien Device, the area it is located in has toxic gasses. The Purified Salve can cure the Curse effect and help you obtain it easily. The Invader’s Wooden Shiv requires the Escalation Protocol Amulet near the Corrupted Harbor checkpoint in Root Earth. You will see a blue particle effect which is perfect for the Dreamcatcher. From this, you will get the Walker’s Dream item which can be used to fight Bane. The Explorer archetype is likely the last one you will obtain, since it requires completing the main story before it becomes accessible.
Start by getting the early archetypes and work your way towards the later-game ones. This will helps you develop your primary and secondary archetypes while you test out the available combinations.
