Yesterday saw the release of RimWorld‘s latest expansion, titled Odyssey. With overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, fans are loving the massive new exploration opportunities offered by the expansion, and they’re showing up in massive numbers. With all the interest and hype, RimWorld just hit its highest ever concurrent player count on Steam, as over 80,000 players are playing simultaneously at time of writing.
This figure could get higher, as the highest RimWorld Steam player count record was actually first beaten last night following its release, with over 68,000 players concurrently trying out the Odyssey expansion. This is growing as we get further into the weekend however, with the peak now sitting at over 80,000 players at the time of writing on Saturday, July 12. RimWorld reaches higher and higher peaks with the release of every DLC, but Odyssey has taken it the furthest yet.

So many players are showing up the Odyssey expansion because it offers something entirely new for RimWorld fans. Players can now build a ship and travel across the face of their planet, being able to land anywhere and everywhere, including in the newly added biomes such as the glacial plains, lava fields and the grasslands. Fans are praising the expansion in Steam’s reviews for being the “best” DLC released yet, particularly because of the ship mechanic and how it feels to be able to take off in flight and travel elsewhere on the planet.
