Shenmue HD Re-release Gets Launch Date

Shenmue, one of  Sega’s original series, is going to be re-released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in an HD collection bundle, featuring the first two games in the franchise. Sega has announced a launch date for the collection, aiming for an August 21 release.

For those of you who are not familiar with Shenmue, it is very similar to the Yakuza series. It was originally released for Sega Dreamcast in 1999 and became successful enough to gain a sequel in 2001.

Like Yakuza, it is an open-world environment game which allows limited interactions with non-player characters. Follow the hero of the series Ryo Hazuki as he searches for his father’s murderer, who is somehow tied to a mysterious artifact known as the Dragon Mirror.

Although the graphics won’t truly go through any form of remastering, the games will feature the original English and Japanese voiceovers as well as an updated user interface. The range of graphic customization for the PC version have yet to be revealed, but we know that the games will have scalable resolution.

The package will be available in both hard copy and digital formats for all modern gaming platforms, although PC players will only gain access to a digital version via Steam. The Shenmue HD Collection will run for $29.99, although digital pre-orders through Steam and the PlayStation Store will get a 10 percent discount until release. Check out the trailer below.
