It’s finally time to take to the tracks, as Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is out today around the world! You’re probably familiar by now with the many characters available to play at launch – but what you might not know is that there’s a secret character that’s only available later on in the game once you meet certain requirements.
If you’d like the secret character to remain a secret, we’d recommend you stop reading here as spoilers are coming! Hey, you could always go check out our spoiler-free review if you’re looking for more Sonic content on your screen. However, if you’ve clicked this article then you’re probably willing to know which character it is and how you can unlock it, so here goes.

Yes, the one and only Super Sonic is speeding his way onto the stage, as he’s the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds secret unlockable character. Unlocking him won’t be easy though, as he’s only available to the players that prove their worthiness on the roads. With all that said, let’s break down exactly what you need to do to unlock Super Sonic.
To get Super Sonic for yourself, first you need to complete every Grand Prix race. Once this is done, you then need to beat every rival character at least once. Your rival is assigned at the start of a Grand Prix race, and you’ll need to complete all four tracks in the race and end the Grand Prix with more points than your rival to secure the victory over them and have them receive a gold tick on the rivals screen. It’s okay if you don’t come first overall, you just need to have more points than them for it to count.

This does require a lot of racing, because there are 23 rival characters and each will require a successful Grand Prix run where you score more points than them. In total, that’s a minimum of 92 races you’ll need to do, adding more if there’s any Grand Prix where you finish with less points than your rival and need to retry. If you’re struggling, you can reduce the difficulty level of your rival on the selection screen by pressing L1/LB on a controller to lower the number of flame icons, thus reducing their difficulty.
That’s all there is to it! It’s a lot of racing, but if you can beat every rival at least once then you’ll be able to unlock Super Sonic in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for yourself. Once you’ve done all that, don’t forget to build up your friendships with the characters for more rewards too!
