For those who want to ensure they will be getting a PlayStation 5 this holiday season, Sony is offering an opportunity to improve your chances. However, there are several caveats and conditions which may discourage a large number of potential customers.
The first step involves going to a page on Sony’s PlayStation site and putting in your PSN ID. From the pool of interested gamers, Sony will send out invites “based on previous interests and PlayStation activities,” according to a FAQ Sony put out regarding the process. If you receive an email from Sony, you’re on to the next step. Those who don’t receive an email will be stuck having to slug it out at GameStop.
The email an invitee receives will be a limited time offer. If the invitee doesn’t take advantage of the offer before the expiration date, they will not be given another one. Invitees will be given the opportunity to pre-order the following items:
-
- 1 PS5 Console or 1 PS5 Digital Edition
- 2 DualSense wireless controllers
- 2 DualSense charging stations
- 2 Pulse 3D wireless headsets
- 2 Media remotes
- 2 HD Cameras
The pre-orders are handled on a “first come, first served” basis. However, it should be pointed out that these are not guaranteed pre-orders. Quantities are apparently limited, and if you happen to get a “Sold Out” message for any given item, you’re out of luck. You don’t have to order absolutely everything, but as long as you’re not trying to order more than the limits laid out above, you should be OK. The console limit is a hard number, one per PSN ID.
The final point to keep in mind is that this is limited only to US customers. Any invitee who fills out a pre-order and puts down a shipping address outside the US will have their pre-order canceled.
