Spyro Reignited Trilogy Announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Spyro the Dragon is receiving the Crash Bandicoot treatment. The official PlayStation blog announced the iconic purple dragon will get a HD remake with the release of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on September 21, 2018.

The package will include the first three Spyro games: Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon and will be $39.99. This trilogy is being developed by Toys for Bob, known for the Skylanders series and who are also working on the upcoming Switch port for Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy.

In the blog post announcement, Toby Schadt, Design Director for Toys for Bob, says the aim is to keep the game as authentic as possible and have it control in the same way as the originals.

The same goes for the graphics. They created an internally developed tool “Spyroscope” which “sends fairies into the original games who convert game details into a format that designers can easily interpret” says Schadt. They were also able to retain much of the same character models, music, game sounds and more.

Toys for Bob is also implementing modern quality-of-life improvements such as analog stick camera control, auto-saving, and fast-travel options.

There are currently no details on a PC or Nintendo Switch release.

Pre-orders are up for PS4. Be sure to also check out the official announcement trailer for the Spiro Reignited Trilogy below:
