In a surprise turn of events, Square Enix announced today that an “animation” project for its cult classic video game The World Ends With You was in the works. The announcement comes almost two years after the last port of the 2007 Nintendo DS game was released for the Nintendo Switch back in 2018.
The company posted the announcement on Twitter, with a link to the show’s official website. The website offers no additional information except a countdown in the style of the ones in the game, telling viewers that they have 7 days.
More information will be released in seven days, specifically during the Anime Expo Lite event on Thursday, July 3 at 6 p.m. Pacific Time. One visual for the anime’s announcement has been released and can be seen above.
