[UPDATE: Epic Games are aware of the issue, and appear to be rolling out a fix! Read on for the original story as it happened.]
We’re not sure how exactly it happened or how long it’s going to last, but the entire Fortnite item shop just got deleted in an instant. Besides from the real money purchasable bundles and Fortnite Crew subscription options, every single purchasable skin just vanished from the digital store front. At the time of writing this outage is still ongoing, and we’ve got a picture to document the phenomenon we’ll attach below.
Social media is flooded with people confused about the outage, with many going to make a purchase only to be met with an empty shop. In the entire history of the game this has never happened before, and developer Epic Games is yet to comment on the mystery vanishing of their entire item store. We’re sure they aren’t happy, as a free-to-play game Fortnite makes all of its money from purchasable microtransaction cosmetics. With an entire store gone, even if it’s just for a few moments, that’s still a lot of lost money!
As you’d imagine, there are plenty of memes and jokes surrounding the mysterious phenomenon spreading like wildfire right now across social media. As one X (formerly Twitter) user puts it, they can’t give us the new 20% cashback on purchases if they don’t have anything to sell! Whilst there’s still no word on what caused the outage, we’re sure Epic will issue a statement and have it back up and running soon as a matter of priority, especially during this current Star Wars themed season in which collaboration cosmetics are a key component.
