Nintendo has said that they wanted to allowing more people to work with their games, characters and franchises to create different types of creations. Now it appears Nintendo is starting to show some promise with this idea, if a report from The Wall Street Journal is to be believed, Netflix could be working on creating a television show based on the Legend of Zelda franchise.
The site is claiming that the show is presently in the “early stages”. A source close to the Wall Street Journal claims that the series is “about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule” – essentially Zelda as we know it. It’s being described as a family-friendly Game of Thrones, with Nintendo having a heavy involvement.
The report claims that at the present moment, Netflix is seeking a writer. As it stands things are not to far along and the project is still quite a long way away, The Wall Street Journal is pointing out that at any point Nintendo or Netflix could pull the plug on the series and it may never get to far.
At the present point in time the report is still yet to receive official confirmation and as such we can not know much more about the project. Neither Netflix or Nintendo have provided a comment on this thus far.
I would have settled for a movie but I am interested to see how they work this into a TV show, I just hope it gets off the ground even if just for a short miniseries.
