Ubisoft has released a free native PS5 upgrade for Ghost Recon Wildlands, adding gameplay targeting 4K resolution at 60fps. The updated version also supports DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, 3D audio, faster SSD loading, and PS5 Pro.
The upgrade is available at no extra cost for existing owners of the PS4 version, while PS Plus Extra and Premium members can access the game through the subscription catalog. Disc owners need to keep the Blu-ray in their console when playing the PS5 version.
Technical improvements for Wildlands
Originally released on March 7, 2017, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, Ghost Recon Wildlands is an open-world tactical shooter set in Bolivia. The game had been capped at 30fps on Xbox consoles since launch, making the new 60fps target a substantial change for console players.
According to Push Square, the PS5 release includes smoother combat, improved distance rendering, enhanced lighting and shadows, and a sharper image targeting 4K resolution. Players can also adjust gameplay, difficulty, environment, and user-interface settings, including enemy behavior, damage values, weapon restrictions, friendly fire, weather, and HUD elements.
The update also restores the game’s Predator event, allowing players to face the extraterrestrial threat again.
Last Rites and free cosmetic content
Alongside the technical update, all players can access the free Last Rites mission. The mission sends players into a darker, more oppressive adaptation of Wildlands’ Bolivia setting to hunt a target known as La Llorona.
PS Plus subscribers are also eligible for an extra content pack with free cosmetic items. That content includes the Iconic Skin of La Llorona, the P416 Micteca, and the 4-SHUR Blue Leader Sunglasses. The cosmetic pack is separate from the free Last Rites mission.
The release also includes quality-of-life improvements. Before the update, players had called for fixes to legacy issues, including enemy spawn bugs, alongside broader gameplay improvements.
Availability and free weekend
Players can try Ghost Recon Wildlands for free through August 10, 2026, as part of a promotional free weekend. Progress made during that period transfers to the full version of the game.
The game is also discounted to $4.99 or £4.49 in Sony’s Summer Sale through August 12. With the free PS5 upgrade, the new mission, and the additional cosmetic content for PS Plus subscribers, the update gives returning and new players several ways to revisit Wildlands on current PlayStation hardware.
