Will CS:GO Be Introducing New Skins In 2023?

Since their inception in 2013, the popularity of Counter-Strike Global Offensive skins has only grown. Although the concept isn’t new, Valve did change the platform when they offered in-game trading and selling amongst players.

At the time, buying weapons crates from NPCs and in-game stores wasn’t revolutionary, but trading amongst players took things to a new level. Many of the big shooter franchises don’t allow players to make trades in-game, despite the growing popularity of this feature.

In combination with the in-game trading, the float and grade concepts catapulted CS: GO skins into a different universe. Over the years, there have been many changes. It only stands to reason that 2023 will be no different. The only question is whether players are going to be prepared for what’s coming.

The Biggest Year In Reveals

Any dedicated CS:GO player knows that Valve has made great strides over the years, not only introducing new skins but bringing in new maps with exciting new content. That coupled with tournaments, weekly resets, and random events has kept even the most fickle of players loyal.

Surprisingly, 2023 could be the most exciting year to date. Why? With beta testing of Counter-Strike 2 made official for the summer of 2023, fans of the longtime shooter can’t contain their excitement. The rumor mill is already running rampant with talks of everything from new skins to entirely new operations.

What Is A CS: GO Operation?

Most players are probably more than intimately acquainted with CS: GO operations. After all, they are huge events that attract not only new players and bring back players that have long since stepped away. CS operations are the equivalent of Destiny’s Iron Banner.

It’s a new limited-time event in which players can engage in new game modes, try out new maps, and unlock seasonal cosmetics. Different than the Iron Banner concept, this is unfortunately not a free event for all players. While players will need to make a one-time purchase of the special operation pass, these events typically span for months at a time. Freebie events like Iron Banner only span for a week.

As suspected, timely completions within this campaign offer access to unique in-rewards and cosmetics.

New Skin Collections?

Although extremely intriguing, this probably isn’t considered the most revolutionary reveal for Valve veterans. It was only a matter of time before the shoot-‘em-up developer dropped a new operation. The big question on most players’ minds is whether or not there will be new skin sets, and if so, what will they entail.

If Valve sticks to its familiar approach, the release of this new operation will be accompanied by new skin releases as well. These collections, much like that of their ancestors, will only be obtainable through the operation. Fans will be able to trade these skins using popular CS trade sites.

Although it is speculation, this 12th operation since the game’s creation will introduce 3 new collections titled, “Counter-Strike”, Myth & Monsters”, and “Pop Comic”. One source has even gone as far as to speculate that the popular assault rifle M4A4 is getting a super cool Chrome Fade skin, while the AK-47 will be getting two standouts titled Omen and Wildfire.

There is in-game footage of these designs, so it’s safe to assume this is more than mere speculation. Regardless, both have a similar bright red color foundation with common birds-of-prey themes. The Omen depicts a unique warrior falcon in action, while the Wildfire features a more common dragon theme.
