Xbox Game Studios Head Wants To Show More Of Fable

We finally have an update on the Fable reboot, from the Head of Xbox Game Studios himself, Matt Booty. Booty seems as if not more eager than fans for the wonders the title holds to be shared. However, it seems that the reason we’ve seen so little footage of Fable comes down to the developers, Playground Games, who are best known for their work on the Forza Horizon series.

In an interview at PAX West 2022 (at around the 45 minute mark in the linked VOD), Booty said “[Playground Games] don’t wanna show stuff early before it’s ready to go, but if there is one game where that’s kinda flipped around where every time I see something and I say ‘we should show this’, it’s Fable.” He added the reason he is so keen is because “there’s a lot of cool stuff” to show. However if you were feeling hopeful the tables could turn and we’ll see something soon, Booty adds “the team has made it very clear that I’m not going to be able to show anything until it’s ready.”

Booty also addresses the eyebrow raises surrounding Playground developing an RPG: a considerably different jaunt than their racing staples. To this, he says: “…the craft and dedication they’ve brought to Forza Horizon, every bit of that is going to be applied to Fable. And they ‘get it’.” He goes on to address the issue on our mind: “Let’s be honest, giving Fable to the racing team could be a little bit of a head-scratcher, right? But they have proven that they get it and I’m excited for, when the time comes, to be able to show more.”

The Fable reveal trailer was shown back in 2020 at the Xbox Games Showcase, but has had tumbleweed ever since. However, Booty’s reasoning may well explain why that has been the case.
