The Fable series was a staple of the Xbox platform, and it was set to make its grand return later this year. It’s now been confirmed on the latest episode of the Official Xbox Podcast however that the game will no longer release in 2025. Xbox Game Studios’ Craig Duncan did however confirm that Fable‘s new release window is set for 2026, an entire extra year of waiting! As a consolation though, we got almost a whole minute of brand new footage.
The new look at Fable is all pre-alpha footage, so pretty much everything is subject to change. We get a look at a whole lot of things, from landscapes, to fights, and even an unvoiced cutscene with the player fighting a big bad wolf. Of course, because it’s Fable, a chicken is kicked like a football across a field too. You can check out the footage from the Official Xbox Podcast yourself right here.
The new Fable is being developed by Playground Games, known for their work on the Forza Horizon series. This past experience gives Duncan “unequivocal confidence” in the studio’s ability to deliver for Fable, especially after the enormous 16 year gap that will separate Fable III and next year’s Fable. It’s been a long wait, but the new footage looks like the game is coming along nicely and may just be worth it.
