The Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here, and two of the biggest Zelda titles from the Switch are getting brand new Switch 2 Editions on launch. Both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will work with the new Zelda Notes companion app, which is included as part of the Nintendo Switch mobile app. We’ve got a new look at the Zelda Notes app, including our clearest look yet at perhaps one of the most exciting features of the Switch 2 Editions – the new achievement system.
As players progress through either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, their every step will be tracked, along with all their progress along a bunch of metrics. We used machine translations on the Tears of the Kingdom app preview, and saw unlockable and upgradeable medals that progressed based on milestones in number of monsters defeated, treasures found, rupees earned and more.

The Zelda Notes app also tracks your progress with which quests you’ve completed, discoveries you’ve made, shrines beat and even Korok Seeds found. This gives players a numerical completion target to follow, and finally makes it so the more achievement-minded of us can focus our exploration in Zelda‘s vast open worlds to progress our medals, earn their upgrades with our achievements and maybe, finally, feel like we’ve experienced everything these games have to offer!
The Switch 2 Editions of both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom launch on June 5, along with the Zelda Notes app. Will you be diving back into the open world of Hyrule and experiencing these all-time great games again?
