We’re a month away from the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and it seems Ubisoft is pleased with the game they’ve created after the delays and controversy surrounding its troubled hype cycle. According to a new report from the often reliable Insider Gaming, Ubisoft has set the review embargo for March 18, two whole days before the launch of the game on March 20, and one of a few recent signs of confidence in the game from Ubisoft.
It’s a good sign that reviews will drop two days before release, because that intentional gap is set by publishers to encourage last minute preorders, based on their expected positive reviews. When a game is expected to have worse reviews, we often see the review embargo placed the day before or even the same day of release in some cases. This isn’t the only sign we’ve had from Ubisoft that they have high hopes for Assassin’s Creed Shadows though!
According to Insider Gaming’s article, the latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise already has 300,000 pre-orders, putting them on par with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which is the second most successful game in the series. Along with solid sales numbers already and good tracking with franchise history, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a recent earnings call that “early previews [of Assassin’s Creed Shadows] have been positive, praising its narrative and immersive experience”.
We’ll see if Assassin’s Creed Shadows can live up to the hopes Ubisoft has for it, with the developers already preparing to once again dive into yearly Assassin’s Creed releases.
