Atlus Teases Persona 5 R

Atlus is teasing something related to Persona 5.

During the Japanese airing of the Persona 5 animation special Dark Sun…, a small teaser was shown (seen below). In the teaser, we see Tokyo’s Shibuya district. All of the screens feature the Phantom Thieves’ logo. We then see the messages “New Projects,” and “2019.3.” The words Persona 5 R are never used during the brief teaser, though a small website entitled P5R.jp was revealed.

At the moment, it is unknown if “New Projects” only pertains to P5R, or if there are other games revolving around the Persona universe on the way. Atlus has recently registered other domains related to Persona 5, such as P5S.jp, P5M.jp, and P5B.jp.

The teaser does start with the PlayStation logo, but it is not known yet if P5R will only release on the PlayStation 4, or if it will make its way over to other platforms such as PC or the Nintendo Switch.

This would not be the first time that we would see an enhanced version of a Persona title. Persona 3 FES was released for the PSP, while Persona 4 Golden was released for the PlayStation Vita. Both games added new content, including new social links and more playable scenarios.

Also announced was a new Persona 5 animated special. Atlus revealed that the special will be called Persona 5 the Animation: Stars and Ours. The special will release in March 2019.

These announcements are not the only Persona news that we have received recently. During The Game Awards 2018, it was announced Persona 5’s Joker would be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He will be the first of five DLC characters to come to the fighter, and will release early 2019. Joker will come with his own stage, as well as a collection of music. He can be purchased on his own, or as part of the game’s fighter pass.

Persona 5 is available now for the PS4 and PS3. Information on P5R will come in March.
