Bella Ramsey Will Not Be Recast In The Last Of Us Season 2

Bella Ramsey will not be recast in The Last of Us Season 2, despite her in-game character’s notable age difference in The Last of Us Part II. Currently aged 19, Ramsey is the same age as Ellie would be in the sequel. The adaptation’s co-creator, Craig Mazin, said the team behind the show had a plan outlined for Ellie’s transition into adulthood.

“We know what we’re going to do. We know what we’re going to do in terms of costume and makeup and hair, but more importantly, we also know the soul and spirit of the actor,” the Chernobyl creator said during a press conference (thanks to a story from GamesRadar).

Mazin added the second season would “be different just as this season was different. Sometimes it will be radically different and sometimes it won’t be fairly different at all. It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil and I wanna make, and we are making it with Bella.”

Bella Ramsey delivered a captivating performance as Ellie.

“We are extremely lucky to have Bella,” co-creator Neil Druckmann later added. “The only way we would ever, ever consider recasting Bella is if they said, ‘I don’t wanna work with you guys anymore.’”

Looking ahead to Season 2, Ramsey said she was keen to dive into Ellie and Dina’s love story, a key storyline in the sequel. “I’m looking forward to that, and the violence that ensues is thrilling in a way,” Ramsey said.
