It’s officially the 30th anniversary of the timeless and iconic RPG Chrono Trigger, which first released in Japan on March 11, way back in 1995 for the Super Famicom. It’s a big milestone for one of the most influential video games in history, a title that inspired many more iconic franchises and games itself. Square Enix announced in a social media post that they are planning “various projects” to celebrate the anniversary of the legendary game.
Apparently, these projects will “leap beyond the game’s world” according to the machine translation, so we expect them to go beyond merely just game-related projects. We’ve already had confirmation of a special live stream to be held on YouTube on March 14, in which the Chrono Trigger will be aired for all to enjoy. The tunes that Chrono Trigger has to offer are just as timeless as the story and gameplay, so be sure to check that stream out if you get the chance. You can check out the stream link to see for yourself what time it plays in your time zone!
Currently, Chrono Trigger is only available on Steam, along with iOS and Android mobile ports. Yes, somehow it’s not in the Switch. Maybe as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations we could see at least a simple port to modern day platforms, although it’s hard not to hope that Square Enix goes all out and eventually gives us one of their HD-2D remakes. They seem to enjoy developing those types of games recently, so we can dream.
