Cyberpunk 2077 Upgrade To Allow Crossover From PS4 To PS5

Cyberpunk 2077, once launched on the PS4, will be further available on the PS5. Confirmed by developer CD Projekt Red, any player with a copy of the PS4 version will receive a free update for the next-gen console, upgrading the game’s visuals.

The news was announced during an investor call. It follows on from an announcement in February that the game would support Microsoft’s Smart Delivery Initiative for Xbox. The initiative means the free upgrade would apply in the same way for the Xbox Series X.

CD Projekt Red also announced that a later upgrade would be available for Cyberpunk 2077, which would take “advantage of the next-gen hardware”, and would be available for free.

“I can confirm this is not the final update,” confirmed CD Projekt executive Michal Nowakowski. “At some point we will have a more robust update for next-gen which we plan to give free of charge to anyone who purchases the PS4 or Xbox One version.”

Yesterday, it was announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would be delayed until November 2020. Slated for release on September 17, the game will now be released on November 19.

In a statement, CD Projekt Red said: “Those of you are familiar with the way we make games know that we won’t ship something which is not ready”.

They confirmed that the main elements of the game, from quests, cutscenes, skills, and items, as well as “all the adventures Night City has to offer” was ready to go, but extra attention would need to be focused on “balance game mechanics”, as well as fixing “a lot of bugs.”

This marks the second time that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, from June to September.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
