DayZ Finally Coming to Consoles in 2018…Maybe

Developer Bohemia Interactive has stated that their popular survival game DayZ will be hitting consoles in 2018. Along with this, the game will also be transferring out of Early Access and into a beta release.

The update comes from the DayZ Development Twitter account. When asked if the game might be coming to Xbox One or PS4, their response was “Yes! Coming to Xbox Game Preview at some point this year, we’re not sure about PS4 yet, but we’ll release there too, eventually – just don’t know when yet.”

Of course, this is not the first time gamers have heard this from Bohemia. Back in 2014, the team portrayed interest in bringing the game to consoles with the expectation of a beta release on PC in 2015. Fast forward three years and, although the game has seen vast improvements since its 2009 alpha release, it seems to be far from a full release.

Whether the game will be relevant if or when it releases is also questionable. Other survival games with similar formulas, notably PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds, have flooded the market, taking away the player base that might have shown interest in the game.

Maybe we will finally see a full release for DayZ, maybe not. The future remains unclear for the long awaited title, and the gaming world is getting tired of waiting.
