The GfK UK Boxed Top Ten for the week ending Jan. 28 has just been announced and the Dead Space remake has hit the top spot. However, despite it being the week’s bestseller, it still sold less than half of what The Callisto Protocol sold back in December. Despite the latter receiving mixed reviews, The Callisto Protocol was sold for a cheaper price with store discounts, and was also released during the holiday period. Additionally, it is also available on more platforms including PS4 and Xbox One.
Dead Space also sold 80% of its stock via physical copies for PS5, with the remainder being on Xbox. However, the digital data has yet to be announced, and as downloading is a preferred method for a lot of players, we will likely see these statistics change to some extent. Despite the revenue difference between Dead Space and Callisto, it appears this was merely a result of price and availability as opposed to popularity. Furthermore, there have been reports of low stock in UK stores for Dead Space.
The Top Ten also features Forspoken taking the 4th spot. Although exclusive to PS5, this is still a slow start for the game and for developers Square Enix, but this is not surprising after also receiving mixed reviews. Hi-Fi Rush has been met with high praise but won’t appear on physical retail charts due to it being a digital-only download available via Game Pass. Additionally, the same can be said for GoldenEye 007 which was limited to subscription services.
Fire Emblem Engage has dropped from the top spot after last week and drops down to #7 after a 76% sales decrease, whereas The Last of Us Part 1 is still climbing, now sitting at #15. This comes after a 32% sales increase with The Last of Us Remastered following suit with a 27% sales increase. With the popularity of the HBO adaption on the rise each week, it won’t be surprising to see sales continue to increase.
