Maze Theory has announced plans for a follow up to their VR title, Doctor Who: The Edge of Time. At this time, the announced project remains nameless but is intended to arrive in early 2021 for the PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
Of course, with the forthcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles right around the corner, it’s unclear whether or not these console follow-ups will see a release on current or next-gen platforms.
Better news still for Doctor Who fans, a second mobile-based title is also in development. In partnership with Kaigan Games, Maze Theory says that the three titles will create a “trilogy of experiences, the first of which was Doctor Who: The Edge of Time VR game which launched in November 2019.”
In their blog post, they added, “Fans can expect new adventures, new game mechanics, intriguing subplots and iconic features such as the TARDIS, terrifying Weeping Angels, imposing Daleks and – of course – the chance to collude with the Doctor herself.”
Maze Theory further announced plans to extend their upcoming VR title, Peaky Blinders – The King’s Ransom.
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time was released in November 2019. In Den Of Geek’s review, it reads that “Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time makes a good case for being one of the best pieces of interactive fiction the show has been adapted into yet.”
“The Edge Of Time is hopefully the first of many high-end Doctor Who VR adventures. And just remember, in VR, there is no sofa to hide behind.”
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time is available on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, and Vive Cosmos. For more information, check out the trailer below.
