The recent Nintendo Direct entirely dedicated to Donkey Kong Bananza caught us all by surprise. The game looks to be packed with things to do, along with new surprises and past returning characters, and it’s generating a lot of excitement online. Interestingly, the excitement it’s gathering over on YouTube appears to be more than rival Switch 2 launch title Mario Kart World, as in mere days the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct has surpassed the lifetime total views of the dedicated Mario Kart World Direct.
In the two months since it aired on April 17, the Mario Kart World Direct has garnered 3.1 million views with 89,000 likes on the official Nintendo of America YouTube channel. On the same channel, the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct just swung past 3.3 million views with over 121,000 likes – in just four days! The excitement for Donkey Kong Bananza and how it’s improving on the 3D Mario formula is palpable, and the online engagement is painting a fascinating picture.
It’s worth noting that it’s quite a fair contest too. Both Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza only had one previous reveal trailer before their dedicated Direct events, and they’re both roughly the same length too. For some reason though, there’s just many more turning up for the upcoming Donkey Kong adventure. That’s not to downplay Mario Kart World as it had a record-breaking launch already, but rather just to emphasize that there are lots of eyes on Donkey Kong Bananza, which could translate to a lot of sales too.
