Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen Added to Capcom Platinum Titles List

Developer Capcom has released an update to their directory of Platinum Titles — games which have sold over 1 million units total. The “Platinum” label comes from the music industry term “going platinum,” which refers to a single album that has sold over 1 million copies. Capcom’s updated list now reflects accurate sales data as of March 31, 2020.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, an enhanced version of the original 2012 hack-and-slash action title, made the list for the first time with slightly over one million units sold. Dark Arisen has been released for several consoles, starting with the original release’s PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and gradually porting to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. A PC version for Windows has also been released.

The Platinum Titles list remains topped by Monster Hunter: World, which has sold 15.7 million units as of March 31. Also, its Iceborne expansion has sold 5.2 million units on its own, with many other Monster Hunter titles appearing on the list.

Other Capcom games which experienced a significant jump in sales include Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, and Street Fighter V. Street Fighter V now ranks 10th overall for lifetime sales, previously populated solely by Monster Hunter and Resident Evil titles.

With the addition of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, Capcom’s Platinum Titles list now contains 96 entries. Hopefully, it will hit 100 within the next few years. What do you think will be the 100th title added to the Platinum list? We don’t have any guesses, but we hope Capcom will do something special to celebrate!

If you’re looking for a new game to keep you occupied during the current global COVID-19 lockdown, then Capcom’s Platinum Titles list is a great place to start searching!
