Famitsu: Bayonetta Origins Debuts, Kirby Stays #1 For Fourth Week

Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers March 13 – 19, and Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe has remained at the top spot for the fourth week in a row. In just one month, the game has sold over 308,000 units. Nine out of the ten spots on this week’s chart are returning games continuing to sell well, with just one debut.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon secured #6 in its release week, selling just over 6,000 units. Whilst this is considerably lower than Bayonetta 3‘s debut sales of 41,000 units, it was never expected that Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon would come close to that, as a smaller scale, spin-off game. It’s not a complete disaster, but Bayonetta Origins in its release week being outsold by Minecraft, which is 12 years old at this point, certainly isn’t great.

Meanwhile over on the hardware charts, the PlayStation 5 has been toppled by the Nintendo Switch once more. Despite an impressive run of outselling the Switch for weeks in a row, the PS5 has now fallen back under the Switch in weekly sales, with a considerable gap of 9,000 units between the two systems.
