Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers July 28 – August 3, as a surprise entry takes #1 and dethrones both Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. The debut of Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 sold over 54,000 copies on Switch, and managed to push down all other releases new and old this week.
In second place is our former reigning champion Mario Kart World, which sold an additional 51,000 units for a new whopping total of 1.46 million sold since launch. Following in third is Donkey Kong Bananza, falling again in sales to 25,000 sold in the week, and finally managing to cross 200,000 sales in Japan. Sales for Donkey Kong have been slow in the country, so hopefully they’re strong elsewhere.
