Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers Nov. 18 – 24, as Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has a huge second week fall in sales after its gigantic debut. Despite holding the #1 spot still with its Nintendo Switch release, both the Switch and PS5 version of the game dropped by 89% in its second week.
This is quite a sharp drop for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, which sold outrageous numbers of units last week. Combined across platforms, the game didn’t even manage to sell another 100,000 copies combined this week (selling 70,000 on Switch and 20,000 on PS5) compared to last week’s 800,000 debut. This could be due to some physical stock shortages that have been reported across Japan, with tight supply unable to meet the huge demand for the game.
There were three other new game appearances this week, perhaps the most surprising being Stray on Nintendo Switch. The Switch physical release of 2022’s former PS5 exclusive found a new home on Nintendo’s platform, selling almost 8,000 copies and securing #7 on the chart. Disney Music Parade: Encore, a rhythm game based off Disney’s vast musical library managed to chart even higher at #5 thanks to 9,000 sales, and Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics also secured a charting spot at #9, with over 5,000 sales.
