Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers Nov. 11 – 17, as Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake had its already hotly-anticipated launch completely explode in Japan. Selling over 640,000 copies on Switch and over 180,000 on PS5 gives the game a total of more than 820,000 units sold in just its first few days on sale.
The success of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has been enormous, with reports that the game has even been selling out in Tokyo stores. We don’t even have digital numbers released yet, but the gigantic launch positions Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake to be the most successful game release of the year in its native Japan. We’re looking forward to seeing how long the legs of the game proves to be, especially with stock shortage issues impacting its already explosive launch performance.
