Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers March 4 – 10, as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth takes a sharp second week plummet to 24,000 sales, a drop of 90% from last week’s already uninspiring launch. This is comparable to the drop of Final Fantasy XVI, which is a rather disappointing performance when comparing VII Rebirth‘s glowing critic reviews. It drops to second place on the charts, being overtaken by Unicorn Overlord.
The new tactical strategy game from Vanillaware has turned out to be surprisingly popular, taking up three slots on this week’s Famitsu chart with its three different platform releases – despite stock shortages. The Switch version of Unicorn Overlord takes the top spot, selling almost 41,000 units. The PS5 version can be found in third place with just over 24,000 copies sold, and very close behind Final Fantasy. The PS4 version unsurprisingly is the least popular, pushing less than 9,000 units.
