Enshrouded: How To Obtain The Hunter’s Hand Spindle

For each according to their trade, craftsman or warrior, there must be proper tools to aid in one’s efforts. Great works require good tools, Flameborn.

With the Revelwood Spire now conquered, you’re in a position to start fulfilling the more demanding requests of your artisans. They need more tools to help unlock new gear options for your Enshrouded character. You’ve probably already gotten one down with the Mortar for the Alchemist, but the others have been deep in hostile territory, or at least their end points seem to be. Let’s keep the upgrade train going with a trip up north to help the Hunter.

Westcott Ruins: On The Trail

You likely got the quest “The Hunter’s Hand Spindle” a little while back. The first step it mentions is to explore Westcott, the ruins to the west-southwest of the Farmer’s Vault. You’ll have to get up near the front doors of the Vault before turning west. Westcott doesn’t have much, only four buildings. The largest of these is barricaded at a couple of different points, but you can smash your way through with a Felling Axe or you can just go around to the back door. You’ll find a silver chest up on the second floor, and a couple of lore items which will give you a little XP, but not much else. Enemies here are predominantly Scavengers, but only level 9. If you’ve beaten the Revelwood Spire already, these guys aren’t going to be quite as much of a threat. But there’s a Return Beacon on the western edge of the village, so it wouldn’t hurt to pass by it.

That’s one really well made tent.

Once you’ve looted the village of loose resources, head north out of Westcott. You’ll come to a tent standing by itself. A marker will now appear on the map, indicating this is an Abandoned Hunter Camp. A lore item is on a table and a silver chest is inside. Loot the chest, then read the lore item. It’ll point you towards a cliff to the northwest of the Revelwood Spire. Looks like you’re going to be taking a flight.

Threading The Needle

From the top of the Revelwood Spire, launch yourself due west. While the quest marker might make it seem you can glide northwest right to the spot, the angle and height of the Spire conspire to make it impossible. You can go northwest (especially if you’ve got the Advanced Glider), but you’ll still have to drop down from an elevated area to reach the quest zone.

Carefully make your way towards the quest marker and you should come across a road running to the north. Follow the road for a bit and you’ll find a broken bridge leading to an elevated area off to your right. You can climb the small hillock to your left and look down on the cobweb-covered entrance to a cave.

“Where’s the Royal Pest Control Service when you–oh, wait.”

Make your way into the cave and follow the path. There are going to be a lot of Spiders (level 13) along the way, so make sure you’ve got plenty of Bandages and Health Potions. Incidentally, this also a good spot to harvest lots of Azure Russula mushrooms, the key ingredient for Mana Potions. At the end of the path is a large chamber lit with glowing mosses and some torches. You’ve found another Abandoned Hunter Camp, and you can see your prize waiting for you. You’ll be tempted to make a run for the Spindle, but hold back near the torch at the chamber entrance.

This chamber absolutely crawls with Spiders of various sizes. Even if you clear out the ones that you first see, more will spawn in once you get near the Spindle. You’ll have to trigger the spawn wave, try to outrun the nearest pursuers, then spend some time shooting your way through the infestation. Or, you can go berserk and slash your way through with a sword or hatchet. Either way, you’ll need to clear out everything. On the plus side, you’ll have a good amount of Critter Parts and String. If you want to look around, you can grab more Azure Russula mushrooms and polish off the few remaining Spiders in the various side tunnels. Once everything’s dead, you’ll be able to hop up on to the niche where the tent is sitting and the Hand Spindle is waiting. Grab it and fast travel back to your base.

“I cast Bug Bomb!”

The Hand Spindle: Aftermath

With the Hand Spindle placed near the Hunter, you’ll be able to turn Flax flowers (the blue ones) into Linen. This refined material will unlock the Ranger and Marksman armor sets, if you’re planning to go the stealth/archer route. Linen is also a component of the Mage and Healer armor sets, so if you’re going the mage route, you’re closer to getting your armor upgraded. You’ll also unlock a couple other new options for shields with the Blacksmith. On a more offensively-centered level, you’ll be able to build Explosive Powder Ball Nets, stringing three Explosive Powder Bombs together give you more boom for your buck. And, to help further ease the pain of your adventures, the Medium Backpack upgrade is available from the Hunter. This adds 16 slots to the base capacity of the backpack.

Looking a little more like a proper wizard now.

The next big ticket item on your “equipment shopping list” is going to involve a Table Saw for the Carpenter, and you’re gonna be working for that one.
